"We really wanted to create a building that people could thrive in," said the Contemplative Commons’ principle architect, Kent Chiang on the uniqueness of the building. "What makes it special is its purpose, the space serves as a mental health oasis." It provides a peaceful sanctuary for students, faculty, and community members as well as housing the Contemplative Sciences Center.

“A student [said] that whenever she goes to the building, she thought she always feel like she’s being held like the building is holding her,” Chiang said. “And I think that’s a wonderful, wonderful, cool way to think about the building.”
